Turning a company party into a gamified icebreaker

Bayer wanted its Berlin employee celebration to do more than gather people in the same venue. The opportunity was to help colleagues move around, meet people outside their usual circles, and create natural reasons to approach senior leaders without making the interaction feel forced.

POAP Studio designed a lightweight social game called Executive Safari. Fifteen official Safari executives became friendly checkpoints: employees could find them, tap or scan to collect a digital souvenir, and keep track of the people they had met through a simple passport experience.

Making a large employee event feel more personal

At a large company gathering, the hardest interactions are often the most valuable ones. Bayer wanted Sommerfest to feel more connected across teams and seniority levels, especially between employees who would not normally have a reason to walk up to leadership.

A social icebreaker disguised as a game

01

Employees received one email-first passport link before the event, letting them track each digital souvenir without downloading an app.

02

Fifteen official Safari executives became approachable checkpoints, giving employees a playful reason to tap, scan, meet, and start a conversation.

03

NFC cards, QR codes, and hints kept the game moving through the party, from activity stations to the leadership encounters that made the safari work.

Bayer showed that a company celebration becomes more memorable when playfulness gives people permission to cross hierarchy and talk.

Results

A company party turned into a playable engagement moment

Fifteen official Safari executives became approachable game checkpoints, giving employees a natural reason to start conversations across hierarchy.

216 Bayer colleagues participated as collectors, turning the party into a measurable internal engagement journey rather than a passive celebration.

The format created a reusable model for employee-facing activations: playful, low-pressure, and built around real human interaction.
