A city-wide collectible hunt that turned local merchants into reward checkpoints — and proved purchase-gated mechanics drive real commerce.
During EthCC 2025 in Cannes, MetaMask and POAP Studio designed a merchant-based hunt across 16 collection points. Participants explored local stores, collected digital checkpoints, and climbed a five-tier reward ladder — from merch to EURe to exclusive experiences.
The mechanic's edge: a purchase-gated Power POAP that only unlocked through a real transaction at a partner merchant. Proof of presence was the entry point. Proof of purchase was the prize gate.
MetaMask needed to take its community off-screen and into local storefronts — creating a value-driven activation that drove real foot traffic to Cannes merchants while making a lasting impression during one of crypto's biggest weeks.
Sixteen collection points across Cannes turned each partner store into a collectible checkpoint — no app download, just a mobile browser tap.
A purchase at any partner merchant unlocked the Power POAP — the gate to the top reward tier, verifying a real transaction, not just a visit.
A five-tier reward ladder — merch, EURe, catamaran dinners, speedboat sunsets — drove participants to complete the full route and spend locally.
Find the Fox proved that proof of presence is good, but proof of purchase is better — when the incentive structure feels like play, it converts attention into real commerce.
Hundreds of participants explored Cannes merchants they would never have visited — turning a conference week into measurable foot traffic for local businesses.
186 verified purchases unlocked the Power POAP — each one an auditable, attribution-ready transaction driven by the collectible mechanic.
All reward tiers drained completely. The five-tier ladder, iterated six times against live engagement data, converted exploration into sustained participation.
Every project starts with a conversation.
